Phi Phi Islands

Ko Phi Phi (Koh, Thai เกาะ = island) is an island group ( Muh Ko Phi Phi - หมู่ เกาะ พี พี ) in the Andaman Sea off the west coast of southern Thailand - consisting of the main island of Ko Phi Phi Don ( เกาะ พี พี ดอน ) and the smaller neighboring island of Ko Phi Phi Leh ( เกาะ พี พี เล ).

To the north are the smaller islands of Ko Mai Phai (Bamboo Island, เกาะ ไม้ไผ่ ) and Ko Yung (Mosquito Island, เกาะ ยุง ), which are only inhabited by a few fishermen. In the south are the islands of Ko Bida inaccessible rock - Nai ( เกาะ บิ ด็ะ ใน ) and Ko Bida Nok ( เกาะ บิ ด็ะ นอก ). They are due to the biodiversity of the surrounding coral reefs and steep walls - up to 24 meters in depth range - popular with divers.

Together they form the 390 km ² large Hat Noppharat Thara Marine National Park ( อุทยานแห่งชาติ หาด นพรัตน์ ธารา ) in Amphoe Mueang, Krabi province and provide an ideal environment for water and diving activities against the backdrop of towering, whimsical processed by the forces of nature rock formations. But tourism, including many day visitors, threatened the delicate ecostructure that for these masses to small islands. Above all, the garbage problem seems the local authorities to grow over the head. So the film crew of "The Beach" had to eliminate only three cubic meters of rubbish, but should themselves for significant environmental damage, even in the coral reefs that have taken care of.
