Philip III, Count of Waldeck

Philip III. of Waldeck (* December 9, 1486 in Waldeck at the Castle Waldeck, † June 20, 1539 in Arolsen ) was 1524-1539 Count of Waldeck -Eisenberg.

Life

He was a son of Count Philip II of Waldeck -Eisenberg and his first wife, Catherine of Solms- Lich, and succeeded his father in 1524 as Graf von Waldeck -Eisenberg.

Around 1520 he built a residential wing of the later castle Goldhausen. Further expansion took place 1563-1565 by his son Wolrad II

Soon after his accession, he headed to the "Land of Procedure " of 1525 in Waldeck the Reformation. Philip III. and his nephew Philip IV, Count of Waldeck- Wildungen, appealed the displaced from the main hiss Fritzlar Lutheran preacher Johann Hefentreger (John Trygophorus ) as pastor of the town of Waldeck, where he delivered his first sermon on June 17 in 1526. In his first marriage Philip married in 1503 Adelheid († 1515), daughter of Count Otto IV of Hoya. His second wife was 1519 Anne of Cleves ( 1495-1567 ), only daughter of Duke John II of Cleves and Matilda of Hesse - Marburg. Her brother held captive because of their marriage from 1517 to 1519.
