Philip Jeremiah Schuyler

Philip Jeremiah Schuyler ( born January 21, 1768 in Albany, New York, † February 21, 1835 in New York City ) was an American politician. Between 1817 and 1819 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is commonly known as " Philip J. Schuyler ," while his father is usually known as Philip Schuyler.

Career

Philip Jeremiah Schuyler, son of Catherine Van Rensselaer (1734-1803) and Philip John Schuyler (1733-1804), grew up during the British colonial period. He received a limited education under private tutors. He then worked in Dutchess County in agriculture. In 1798 he sat in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Federalist Party.

In the congressional elections of 1816 Schuyler was in the fifth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Thomas P. Grosvenor on March 4, 1817. Since he gave up for reelection in 1818, he retired after March 3, 1819 from the Congress.

Then he was again engaged in farming. He died on February 21, 1835 in New York City and was buried at the Schuyler estate near Rhinebeck. Later, however, he was reburied at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
