Phoenix Reisen is a German tour operator based in Bonn. A specialty cruises are what the company offers trips on three ocean-going vessels as well as numerous river cruise ships.

History

The company Phoenix Reisen was founded in 1973 by John Zurnieden as travel company for city breaks. In 1988, Phoenix began in the cruise area with the Maxim Gorkiy they chartered by a Soviet company for 20 years. In 1993 came a second ship to the fleet of Phoenix Travel, built in 1957 as the first Sylvania Albatross, which was chartered by V.Ships. Unlike the Maxim Gorkiy the ship got this time a painting in Phoenix colors with the characteristic turquoise chimney. In the same year they started to operate also riverboats. Currently (as of July 2011), Phoenix 51 riverboats in the program.

According to various mechanical problems Phoenix finished traveling the Charter of the Albatros prematurely in December 2003. As a substitute, the Crown was chartered in January 2004, which was renamed Albatros.

In 2005, chartered the ship, built in 1996 as Minerva, the third unit and used under the name of Alexander von Humboldt. A fourth ship arrived in 2006 with the charter of Amadea added. In 2008, the first Alexander von Humboldt has been replaced by a bigger, chartered by Club Cruise ship, which also received the name of Alexander von Humboldt. The end of 2008 ended the Charter of Maxim Gorkiy, and due to high fuel prices and high consumption of this ship the charter was not renewed. In May 2009, chartered Phoenix Reisen then the built in 1946 as the Stockholm Athena by Nina SpA. In April 2011, took over the Phoenix Reisen Artania that was previously traveling as Artemis for P & O Cruises.

The company employs ( with as of July 2011) about 100 employees in the headquarters in Bonn; in addition about 100 tour guides on the ships.

For the ARD TV documentary series Something turned the Bayerischer Rundfunk in 2009 and 2010 with the production company Exciting times on the Albatros by ocean. Since January 2010, 50 episodes have been broadcast in the ARD. A further 30 episodes were filmed in autumn 2011, and sent in the 4th quarter of 2012. The fourth season of 40 episodes will be broadcast on the eve of the ARD program since November 2013.

Phoenix Reisen is elected in January 2012 in a study by HolidayCheck the tour operator with the most satisfied customers, according to the study, 91% of traveled with Phoenix travel vacationer would recommend this.
