Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka

Phumzile Mlambo - Ngcuka ( born November 3, 1955 in Claremont, KwaZulu -Natal) is a South African politician of the party COPE. From 2005 to 2008 she was Vice President of the ANC.

Life

After high school graduation Mlambo - Ngcuka enrolled at the National University of Lesotho, where in 1980 received a bachelor's in social science and education. Subsequently, she worked as a teacher until 1983. After the founding of the Natal Organisation of Women (NOW), an offshoot of the UDF, she was the first female president of the organization. From 1984 to 1987, Mlambo - Ngcuka Director of the Young Women's Christian Association in Geneva. At University College London, she qualified in 1988 gender policy and development planning continues thereafter she was managing a development planning company in Cape Town. In 1990, she joined the World University Service South Africa and was responsible for literary development in rural areas. At the University of Cape Town in 2003 she made her master.

Since 1994, Mlambo - Ngcuka was a member of Parliament from 1996 to 1999 she was Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry. In 1997 she was seconded to the National Executive Committee ( NEC) of the ANC, at the same time, she was deputy chairman of the party in the Western Cape. From 1999 to 2005 she was Minister of Minerals and Energy, 2004, in addition acting Minister for Culture, Science and Technology. After the dismissal of Deputy President Jacob Zuma appointed President Thabo Mbeki, the former Minister on 22 June 2005 the new South African Vice President. Since 2008, Mlambo - Ngcuka operates the Umlambo Foundation, a foundation for education and teacher development.
