Piarco International Airport is the airport of Trinidad. He is the main airport of the capital Port of Spain and next to Crown Point Airport is the main airport of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Piarco Airport is about 27 kilometers southeast of Port of Spain.

History

Piarco International was opened on 8 January 1931. At that time allowed only start small planes take off and land. 2001, a new terminal for Piarco was built to expand flight operations. Piarco International Airport is an important for Caribbean Airlines.

The terminal is about 35,900 square meters. Recently there is also a shopping center that was added in 2006.

The commercial airport is large enough to accommodate major transport aircraft such as the Boeing 737, Boeing 747, Boeing 777 or the Airbus A340.

The construction of the new terminal was completed on November 25, 2011. The North Terminal is designed for business travelers and hosts 29 gates with 14 passenger boarding bridges. The existing terminal is called new South Terminal.

Piarco is the home airport of Caribbean Airlines and a hub for LIAT. A connection to Europe is offered by British Airways.
