Piechowice

Piechowice [ p ʲ ɛxɔv itsɛ ʲ ] ( German Petersdorf ) is a town in southwestern Poland. It is located in powiat Jeleniogórski of Lower Silesia at the foot of the Giant Mountains. The city belongs to the Euro region Neisse.

Geography and transport

Piechowice lies in the Jelenia Góra valley between the Giant Mountains in the south and the eastern foothills of the Jizera Mountains in the west. It is located about ten kilometers south-west of Jelenia Góra and five kilometers northeast of Szklarska Poręba. The river flows through the city prongs through which the highway E 65 (Stettin, Prague ) and the railway line Jelenia Góra Szklarska Poręba, formerly called Pip train, run. Highest mountain in the urban area is the High Wheel ( Wielki Polish Szyszak ) 1509 m above sea level. NN, close to the Czech border in the south.

Culture and sights

The municipal area of Piechowice include some of the most beautiful areas of the Giant Mountains. Particularly worth seeing are the snow pits ( Śnieżne Kotły ) in 1200 to 1450 m above sea level - two enormous glacial glacial cirques with small cirque lakes and some 200 meter high rock walls that are located just below the main ridge of the mountain. Furthermore, the 13.5 -meter-high Szklarki Waterfall are ( Szklarka ) that the mountain stream forms Kochel ( Szklarka ), and the lookout point Złoty Widok ( "Golden View" ) above Michałowice overlooking the north side of the Giant Mountains popular destinations. It is also located near the ruins Chojnik. A significant part of the metropolitan area lies within the National Park Karkonoski Park Narodowy ( KPN ) ( " Giant Mountains National Park "). Furthermore, situated on the edge of Wernersdorf in a park called the Hessian bleach, one built around 1720 building, which was renovated and opened in April 2012 as a hotel.

Although Piechowice is a small town, it has but a vibrant cultural life. Flagship of the city are founded along with numerous resident visual artists in the early 1990s two independent theaters: Teatr Nasz, led by Jadwiga and Tadeusz Kut, and the Teatr Cinema by Katarzyna Rotkiewicz - Szumska and Zbigniew Szumski. Teatr Cinema enjoys over regional and increasingly international attention. In addition to the regular city, from Piechowicki Ośrodek Kultury coordinated cultural events take place.
