Geography

Pierbach lies on 494 meters in the Upper Austria. The expansion is 5.3 kilometers from north to south, from west to east 8.6 km. The total area is 22.8 km ². 10.2% of the area is forested, 11.6 % of the area is used for agriculture.

History

Originally the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged since the 12th century the Duchy of Austria. Since 1490 he is the Principality ' Austria above the Enns ' attributed. Culture and sights

  • Pierbach parish: The parish church of Pierbach dedicated to St. Quirinus of Neuss. Mentioned in documents in 1150, 1372 Pierbach was elevated to parish. The patronage of the parish practiced since 1688 from the respective owner of the reign Ruttenstein. The church is a Romanesque / Gothic three-nave church with a Gothic Season chancel, bell tower and late Gothic aisles. Inside there are murals from the 16th century. The high altar ( Crucifixion ) from the circle of Meinrad Guggenbichler. The baroque side altars date from 1680, the pulpit from the 17-18. Century. The organ is a work of Herbert Gollinis from the year 1971 ( 2 manuals, 10 stops ). Various single figures in the church date from the Gothic ( 1500), or from the 17th century ( radius Zürn )
  • Augenbründl: A little outside the town of source that was used in the past at eye diseases as a healing source. The wooden cross was originally located there in the 1960s, replaced by a shrine.
  • Castle ruins Ruttenstein: Former fortress, which was first mentioned in 1160 in records.
