Pierre César Dery

Pierre César Dery ( born February 2, 1768 in Saint- Pierre ( Martinique); † October 18, 1812 at Taurutino, Russia) was a French brigadier general of cavalry.

Life

With 12 years Dery occurred on March 4, 1780 in the Royal Navy and began his service on the frigate l' Iphigénie to. After the first carriage, he moved to the l' Élise and took until 1783 part of the American War of Independence.

Dery could be distinguished by bravery and took this in October 1788 on the occasion of the Navy to go to the cavalry, he saw more opportunities for his career there. In the battle of Sint- Truiden (7 March 1793) he was wounded by saber cuts. After his recovery he was transferred to the Sambre and Meuse Army and fought bravely at Fleurus (26 June 1794) and on the Katzbach (2 November 1794).

During the Battle of Marengo (14 June 1800) he was again wounded and was taken prisoner. At the request of Tsar Alexander I. Dery but was released the following day and medical care to the Grande Armée returned.

As of August 12, 1805 Dery served as aide- de-camp of Marshal Joachim Murat and participated in military campaigns in Austria and Prussia.

In the battle of Taurutino (18 October 1812) Dery was mortally wounded and died on the battlefield.
