Pierre Étienne Simon Duchartre

Pierre Étienne Simon Duchartre ( born October 27, 1811 in Portiragnes, † November 5, 1894 in Paris) was a French botanist and one of the 15 founding members of the Société botanique de France. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Duch. ".

Life

Pierre Étienne Simon Duchartre was born on 27 October 1811 in Portiragnes. He studied botany in Toulouse and was awarded his doctorate in 1840. His work was entitled Observations sur le Trochus lessoniie Blainv. e Monodonta lessoniie payr. et sur ​​son anatomy. In 1837 he was a teacher in Fumel, 1848 he became a member of the French Academy of Sciences. In 1849 he became professor of botany and Pflanzenphysiology at the Institute agronomique in Versailles. In 1861 he received a Department of Botany at the Sorbonne.

On March 12, 1854 he founded, together with 15 other botanists Société botanique de France, the sixth president he was. Overall Duchartre was six times President of the Society, 1854, 1859, 1868, 1874, 1876, 1888 and 193, more than any other.
