Pierre Moulu

Pierre Moulu (* around 1484, † 1550 ) was a Franco- Flemish composer of the Renaissance, who worked in France and there probably in Paris.

Of his life like many Renaissance composers is little known, but substantive evidence in his compositions suggest that he worked at least the first two decades of the 16th century French royal court orchestra for and it also can with the Cathedral of Meaux on the Marne be placed east of Paris in conjunction. He composed music for solemn occasions, such as a wonderful lament on the death of Queen Anne of Britain ( 1514), as he composed a motet, the - in his eyes - the most celebrated composers of France chronological auflistete and boasted with Josquin to completion. Documents from the Vatican (1505 - 1513) to help his identity narrow by showing that a " Peter Moulu " various church offices held at the Cathedral of Meaux. Maybe he wrote his Missa Stephane glorious for the Cathedral Saint Etienne ( Saint Stéphane ) in the city.

His music is obviously influenced by Josquin and although Pierre Ronsard wrote that Moulu studied with Josquin, this is not a source. The motet Anxiatus est in me spiritus meus the Queen Anne's laments death, served in a similar design and much better-known composition by Josquin occasion Ockeghem's death, La deploration sur la mort Ockeghem. Moulus music draws from haunting imitation and smooth polyphony with equal votes. ( Beautifully presented in and probably most famous of Nicolas Gombert's music. )

Pierre Moulu composed primarily liturgical music, as well as motets and masses. His Missa Alma Redemptoris Mater and Missa duarum facierum called, clearly shows that he mastered perfectly the noble art of polyphony. This show can be performed in two ways: with or without pauses that are longer than quarter breaks. The last discovery is the Missa Paranymphus based on the same motet by Loyset Compère. At some motets and songs Moulus authorship is doubtful. (Jean Mouton and Josquin also come as composers of these works also suitable).

One finds Moulus compositions in collective works and ancient manuscripts, including in Bologna, Rome and Cambrai. Also in 's- Hertogenbosch in the illustrious Brotherhood of Our Lady, the music of this composer was in the sixteenth century, sung as they can be found today in two manuscripts of this fraternity.

Some works of Moulu remained still receive only without text. Thus appeared in 1592, a three -part canon in Lodovico Zacconi Prattica de musica under the name Pietro Molu. This canon, however, was already printed by Petrucci in 1503, so the write-up Moulu is very unlikely.
