Pietro Bernini

Pietro Bernini ( born May 6, 1562 Sesto Fiorentino; † August 29, 1629 in Rome ) was an Italian sculptor, painter and restorer.

He was the father of Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini and Luigi Bernini and was trained in Florence by the sculptor Ridolfo Sirigatti. Who trained him in the painting is not known, but it is based on old traditions, around 1580, along with Antonio Tempesta, who worked on the frescoes in the Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola.

In the following years he lived in Rome, where he restored among other ancient statues. It is believed that he. Orders for Pope Gregory XIII executed. 1584 he moved to Naples, where he produced numerous sculptural works for various churches. 1594, he was staying again in Florence, where he worked on a relief of the Holy Trinity, together with Giovanni Caccini. In 1596 he was again active in Naples. Around the turn of the century, he entered into a joint studio with Michelangelo Naccherino, with whom he created, among others, the Neptune Fountain in Naples. Against 1605/ 06 he moved to Rome, where he entered the service of Pope Paul V. From 1617, he worked more and more often with his son Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini.
