Pietro Rava

Pietro Rava ( born January 21, 1916 in Cassine (AL), Italy, † November 5, 2006 in Turin ) was an Italian football player and coach.

Rava was appointed on 12 March 2003 for his sporting achievements Commendatore Ordine al Merito of the Italian Republic by the then President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. He is still regarded today as one of the icons of history club Juventus.

During his active career, he was an accomplished defender. He was later referred to as Zambrotta in the 1930s.

Before his death, Pietro Rava suffered from Alzheimer 's disease, on 27 October 2006, he had to undergo surgery on a broken femur after a fall in his apartment. He died on 5 November 2006 at the Ospedale Martini in Turin and with him the last surviving World Champion of 1938.

Playing career

In the club

Pietro Rava began his playing career with the U.S. Alessandria. In 1935, he transferred to Juventus, for which he played until a break in the 1946/47 season, when he went for a year back to Alessandria to 1950. For Juve, he completed a total of 330 games, scoring 15 goals and was an early favorite players of the then club president Giovanni Agnelli. Rava moved to season 1950/51 to Novara Calcio, where he ended his active career in 1951.

In the National Team

Pietro Rava made ​​his debut in the Italian national team on August 3, 1936 game against the USA at the Summer Olympic Games in Berlin. He graduated at the tournament all games and won his team a 2-1 victory in the final against Austria the gold medal.

Pietro Rava, together with Alfredo Foni, Sergio Bertoni and Ugo Locatelli one of only four Italians who were in their careers, both world champions, and Olympic champion.

After his playing career coached Pietro Rava Sampdoria, Palermo, Padova Calcio, AC Monza Brianza, U.S. Alessandria, Novara Calcio, U.S. Carrarese and Cuneo.
