Pinchas Rosen

Pinchas Rosen ( born May 1, 1887 in Berlin, † May 3, 1978; actually Felix Rosenblueth ) was an Israeli politician and several times Minister of Justice and head of the German Zionists in the German Reich.

Life

Rose graduated after the attendance of 1904 to study law and political science at the Albert -Ludwigs- University of Freiburg and the Friedrich -Wilhelms- University of Berlin, where he graduated with the admission to a lawyer in 1908. 1910 was his Doctorate in Law. Georg Jellinek with the theme "For the definition of the people and nation." As a student, he joined several Zionist student organizations and was co-founder in 1911 of the Jewish youth movement Blau-Weiss. During the First World War he served in the German army as an officer. From 1920 to 1923 he was chairman of the Zionist Federation of Germany.

1926 Rose moved to Israel and was a trustee founded by the Histadrut public construction company Solel Boneh, and from 1926 to 1931 member of the Zionist Directorate in London and also the director of the Organization Department and one of the founders of the Central European immigrants association. Subsequently, Rosen worked 1932-1948 as a lawyer. Between 1935 and 1950 he was a member of the City Council of Tel Aviv, in 1942 founding chairman of the New Aliyah Party and for this 1944 Delegate Assembly of Representatives.

After the establishment of Israel, whose founding fathers roses belonged, he was co-founder in 1948 of the Progressive Party ( Miflaga Progresivit ), which was formed as an alliance of the New Aliyah Party, Ha'Oved Ha'Zioni and groups of Zionists. On 14 May 1948 he was appointed by Prime Minister David Ben Gurion, the first Minister of Justice and held that office first before 8 October 1951. For the Progressive Party, he was also first elected on 14 February 1949, members of the Knesset, he stayed till to December 23, 1968 continuously belonged. From the 24th December 1952 to February 13, 1956 Rose was again Minister of Justice, as of January 7, 1958 to November 2, 1961. As Minister of Justice he campaigned for Diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany. In the controversial debates in the Knesset to the compensation of the Federal Republic of Germany in January 1952 eventually played economic factors a crucial role and in the Act on the Punishment of Nazis and their collaborators (1950 ) presentation focused on the " cleaning " of Israel of " Jewish criminals " who had collaborated with the Nazis.

1961 was also a leader of the roses from a Zusammschluss of the Progressive Party and the General Zionists ( Tzionim Klalim ) incurred Liberal Party ( Miflaga Liberalit Yisraelit ). After the founding of the Liberal Herut block ( Gahal ) In 1965 he resigned from the Liberal Party and was chairman of the Independent Liberal Party ( Libralim Atzma'im ).

In memory of his 100th birthday, a commemorative stamp was issued in 1987.
