Threefold Pinellie ( Pinellia ternata )

The threefold Pinellie ( Pinellia ternata, Syn: .. Arum ternatum Thunb, Pinellia tuberifera Ten ) is a plant of the genus Pinellia ( Pinellia ) in the family of Araceae ( Araceae ).

Features

The threefold Pinellie is a spring green, perennial herbaceous plant that reaches the stature heights of 20 to 30 centimeters. It forms spherical tubers as outlasting having a diameter of about 12 mm. In the axils brood nodules are formed. The two-to five -stalked leaves are three parts 5-6, rarely up to 12 inches long. The petiole is 15 to 20 cm long. The middle leaflet is oblong - lanceolate.

It is monoecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( monoecious ). There shall be typical of the family of the Araceae inflorescences. The inflorescence stem is 25-35 cm long. The piston is divided into a male sterile and female section. The green to whitish- green and violet on the edge spathe is constricted over the rest of the female, 2 cm long portion of the inflorescence inside, green outside and dark purple inside. The spathe is 5 to 7 inches long, dull and her boiler is shut down. The sterile part of the piston is 3 mm long. The male portion is 5 to 7 mm long. The piston extension is much thicker than the spathe and has at its base a diameter of 3 millimeters.

The flowering period extends from May to July. Pollination is by biting midges.

There shall be seeded, ovoid, yellowish-green berries.

Occurrence

The threefold Pinellie occurs in most of China, as well as in South and Central Japan and Korea. The habitats are mainly wastelands, secondary forests, fields and herbs rich grassy slopes at altitudes up to 2500 meters below. In West Germany and other areas of the world this species is wild.

Use

The threefold Pinellie is rarely used as an ornamental plant in perennial beds on pathways and as a lover plant.

Although the raw tuber is toxic, it is used as food. The toxin is destroyed by drying and thorough cooking. To obtain the tubers this type is cultivated throughout Japan.

Medical effects are known. But this type is grown in China. The Chinese name for the drug is Ban Xia.
