Piotr Haczek

Piotr Haczek ( born January 26, 1977 in Żywiec ) is a former Polish athlete, who specializes in the 400 -meter run. His greatest successes came as a relay runner.

In 1997, he won the gold medal in the 4 x 400 - meter relay and a silver medal in the 400 -meter run at the U23 European Athletics Championships. His first international medal in the adult area, derives from the IAAF World Championships in the same year in Athens. Together with Tomasz Czubak, Piotr Rysiukiewicz and Robert Maćkowiak he finished second in 3:00,26 min fourth place in the relay. The Polish team advanced to a rank but later on, when the American squadron was subsequently disqualified for a doping offense runner Antonio Pettigrew her.

The same Polish team won the silver medal behind the British relay at the European Athletics Championships 1998 in Budapest. At the IAAF World Indoor Championships the following year in Maebashi Haczek won another silver medal in the relay. This Tomasz Czubak was replaced by Jacek Bocian. The Polish squadron turned in a time of 3:03,01 min on a European Indoor record. Only the U.S. team was faster in this race and achieved a world record indoor ( 3:02,83 min).

Half a year later at the World Athletics Championships in Seville initially drew from the same result. The Polish season - this time in the cast Czubak, Maćkowiak, Bocian, Haczek - was in 2:58,91 min second behind the U.S.. Because of the involvement Antonio Pettigrew however, there was also to a subsequent disqualification so that the world champion fell to the Polish quartet. 1999 Haczek had also achieved as U23 European champion in the 400 - meter dash his greatest international success as an individual competitor.

Haczek started as early as 1996 at the Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney for the Polish season, which came in seventh place there. He also appeared in over 400 m and reached the semi-final round. With the same collaborators as in 1999 in Maebashi Haczek competed at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2001 in Lisbon. The Polish team secured this time in 3:04,47 min the title, beating surprisingly the favored U.S. Season by 17 hundredths of a second. Haczeks last major success was winning the bronze medal in the 4 x 400 meters relay at the IAAF World Championships in the same year in Edmonton. Together with Rafał Wieruszewski, Piotr and Piotr Długosielski Rysiukiewicz he scored a time of 2:59,71 min. Again benefited the original fourth-placed Polish team of the subsequent disqualification Pettigrew.
