Place de la Nation

The Place de la Nation is a place in the east of Paris on the border 11 to 12 arrondissement and the 44th district of Sainte-Marguerite and the 46th Quartier de Picpus. He is one of the largest and most important transportation hubs of the city.

History

The place was once on the wall of farmer-general. On the former open space of the village Picpus you put on July 26, 1660 on the occasion of the solemn feed of the royal couple, Louis XIV and Maria Theresa of Austria in Paris a throne on which was located on the return trip from Saint -Jean -de -Luz, where had married. The square was named Place du Trone. After the French Revolution, the square was renamed. 1784 was built on the western sally port of the wall of the farmers-general two columns with the statues of Philip II and Louis IX. , The architect Claude Nicolas Ledoux had planned.
