Plankenstein (mountain)

Photographed Plankenstein ( 1,768 m) from the eastern ridge of the Risserkogel

The Plankenstein (also called Blankenstein ) is a climbing mountain in the Bavarian Alps. It lies between Wallenberg and Risserkogel and 1768 m high.

Access is from the toll road from Rottach- Egern to the parking lot ( box Winterstube / Hufnagel room ) just before the Moni Alm (length approx 7 km), from there on foot right hand side of a forest road following on the Siebli pasture and vineyard stretching saddle ( 1500 m ) in about 1.5 hours for Plankenstein. Further increase opportunities from this direction offer the ways of the Röthenstein Alm and Alm Plankenstein

Well-known climbing routes are the direct east ridge of Plankenstein or the West edge of the needle. Climbers will find on Plankenstein routes until Difficulty X. The Plank Stone Needle has one of the most difficult climbs in the Bavarian Alps.

The climb up the chimney-like West channel ( Normal ) has the II Difficulty. The slight (but smooth polished ) rock must not be underestimated, especially as the last piece before the summit is much more difficult (III ). Beginners in the rock should therefore never enter alone, but only on the rope of an experienced companion. The first meters of the descent from the summit are best solved also for experienced climbers only by rappelling.

Southeast below the Plank stone is the Riederecksee, southwest below the Röthensteiner lake. West of Plank stone is the Röthenstein. To the east of Plank stone is the cry of stone as well as south of the snow floors.
