Plogoff
Plogoff ( Breton Plougoñ ) is a municipality with 1,300 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the far west of France in the department of Finistère in the Brittany region.
The municipality is located on the Cap Sizun peninsula with a large bird sanctuary and is still regarded as a symbol of the struggle against nuclear power plants. The there in the late 1970s proposed plant was prevented by long-lasting, not only non-violent resistance of the local population with national and international support. Was superimposed the anti -nuclear motif of antizentralistischen, on a recovery of the Breton identity (language, culture, political devolution ) directed tendencies.
