Pont-Croix

Pont- Croix ( Breton Pontekroaz ) is a municipality in the Cap Sizun in Cornwall, in the Finistère in the Brittany region in western France.

8.09 km ² live 1682 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). Pont- Croix is located 5 km from Audierne at one of the three intersecting the Cap Sizun from west to east, scenic, narrow streets that lead from the Baie de Trépassés about Audierne ( and northern viewpoints ) to Douarnenez and Quimper. Pont- Croix is chef-lieu, former customs house in the canton of the same name. When the river Goyen was still navigable to the pier in the center, the goods of sailing ships across the bridge of Pont- Croix were brought further inland. There was this also a small railway track, the train de carottes, which was abandoned for economic reasons in the early 20th century.

Attractions

  • The old town is well preserved. The central location in the geographical center of Cap Sizun invites to excursions to Pointe du Raz, Pointe du Van and Baie des Trepasses. Along the Goyen river can be seen on the towpath or on the opposite banks of the river ( downstream ) hike with spectacular sea views Audierne. It will be offered in the summer at high water canoeing of Pont- Croix to Audierne.
  • Collegiate Church of Notre -Dame de Roscudon from the early 13th century, with a 67 -meter high church tower, which served as a model for the towers of the Cathedral of Quimper ( with a fountain in front of the entrance).
  • Museum of Pont- Croix in the old Marquisat.
  • Grande Rue Chère, Petite Rue Chère, paved streets ( Ruelles pavées ) and medieval houses around the market and church
