Pöbel Valley Railway

As a mob Talbahn the project of a narrow-gauge railway with a track width of 750 mm from Schmiedeberg by the Pöbeltal to Moldova (now Moldava ) denotes the Eastern Ore Mountains.

History

Especially because of the cheap import North Bohemian brown coal a narrow-gauge railway was provided, which should connect the already existing Weißeritztalbahn with the standard gauge railway line Prague - Vltava.

On 10 March 1920, the construction began in Schmiedeberg. The Schmiedeberg station was rebuilt and extended, the additional tracks for the mob roller coaster but not initially built. By 1921, the proposed route was staked to km 9.16. On November 14, 1923, the construction was canceled. At this point the line was completed to the planned station Niederpöbel, other sections were under construction.

The project envisaged to guide the web over the wall of the dam crown Seyde, which was ultimately not built until today. Work on the track in 1923 canceled because also completely changed political conditions prevailed in Bohemia. Unlike the old Austria was the newly founded Czechoslovakia now no friendly relationship, so that the coal imports decreased Saxony anyway, so the point of the route the new building was omitted.

Tracing

Even today, the completed parts of the route can be identified in the field. From Schmiedeberg to Niederpöbel exists to this day, the completed embankment and also the facilities of the station Niederpöbel are clearly recognizable as such. After a break, another strong overgrown trassierter section exists at the configured breakpoint choice mill.
