Podhradí (Jičín District)

Podhradí ( German Podhrady ) is a patch in the Czech Republic. It is located four kilometers southwest of the center of Jičín on the mountain Veliš and belongs to Okres Jičín.

Geography

The place is located on the ridge Velišský hřbet on the western slope of the Veliš. To the north the plain of Porák and Cidlina spreads.

Neighboring towns are Brezina in the north, and Vokšice Jičín in the northeast, Čejkovice and Šlikova Ves in the east, Staré Místo the southeast, Veliš in the south, Bukvice the southwest, Krelina in the west and Hlásná Lhota in the northwest.

History

By 1300, was built on the mountain Veliš the royal castle Weliss. Before the castle formed a settlement, which was first mentioned in 1546 as Welissi. The castle belonging to the reign Welisch village Podhrady was the economic center of the castle. After the Battle of White Mountain, bought on July 22, 1622 Albrecht of Wallenstein, the rule Welisch and incorporated it into the Duchy of Friedland.

After Wallenstein's assassination in 1634 was on January 27, 1635 Heinrich Schlick on imperial decree a part of the rule, including Podhrady. 1658 was the demolition of the castle, which was henceforth used by the inhabitants of the place for building materials. 1790 Podhrady was referred to as submissive market. Gepfarrt was the place after Welisch.

In the 19th century basalt was broken on the Veliš. Until the termination of the quarry in 1879, large parts of the hilltop were removed; from the castle ruins there was little get.

On 17 May 1954, the site was graded to the village. In 1998 the ruins Veliš, the St. Wenceslas Church in Veliš, the Baroque castle Vokšice, the chapel Andělíček and Loreta of the Virgin Mary were declared a monument zone. Since January 23, 2007 podhradí again has the status of a patch.

The patch podhradí consists of the districts Čejkovice ( Tschejkowitz ) Hlásná Lhota (Great Lhota ), podhradí ( Podhrady ) Šlikova Ves ( silt village) and Vokšice ( Wokschitz )
