Podhradie, Topoľčany District

Podhradie (Hungarian Kővárhely - to 1907 Podhragy ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 302 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011) and belongs to Okres Topoľčany, kraj a circle of Nitriansky.

Geography

The municipality is located on the southeast slope of the mountain Považský Inovec the creek Slivnica. The center is located at an altitude of 435 m nm and is located 17 kilometers north-west of Topoľčany.

History

Podhradie was first mentioned in writing in 1245, then still as Hornouc (modern Slovak: " Hrnovce "). After the construction of the castle in the late 13th century Topoltschan above the village the importance grew as it became a fore-castle - village. This ended in the 18th century, when the administration of the territory of Topoltschan be moved to Tovarníky, which was reflected in the decline in population.
