Podolie

Podolie (Hungarian Felsőleszéte - Leszéte to 1907 - to 1898 Podola ) is a city and a municipality in western Slovakia, with 1957 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). The inhabitants are almost exclusively Slovaks.

Geography

The municipality is located in the upper Danube hills at the top Dudváh, partly situated in the Little Carpathians, 11 kilometers south of Nove Mesto nad Váhom and 14 kilometers northwest of Piešťany.

History

Podolie was first mentioned in 1392 as Lessethe writing.

In 1957, the place Korytné (Hungarian Alsóleszéte ) was annexed to the municipality.

Attractions

  • Roman Catholic St. George's Church, a Gothic 14th-century, baroque 1748-58 remodeled, expanded in the early 20th century by two chapels
