Podvysoká

Podvysoká (Hungarian Határújfalu - to 1902 Podviszoka ) is a municipality in Okres Čadca of Žilinský in the far north of Slovakia. The number of inhabitants amounted as of December 31, 2010 to 1,309 inhabitants.

Geography

The municipality is located in the upper Kysuca valley on the right bank of the flowing eastward Kysuca, on the northern slope of the mountain Javorníky and below the mountain Vysoká ( 798 m nm), who is also the namesake for the community. Podvysoká is located just four kilometers from the city Turzovka.

History

Podvysoká originated in the 17th century by the merger of various small settlements in the immediate area. The first written mention as Podvisoka dates from the year 1658. The municipality was a disputed territory between the ruler of the castle Budatín and Strečno Castle, later joined also the estate of bit that has finally gotten the community.

1662 lived 17 Untertanfamilien in place. In 1784 Podvysoká had 51 houses, 63 families and 356 inhabitants. 1850 are shown 560 Slovak Catholics.

Traffic

Podvysoká is on the national road 487 ( Čadca - Makov - Turzovka ) reachable. Furthermore, there is a stop on the railway line Čadca - Makov.
