History

In ancient times, the area was part of the province of Noricum. In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place informed the eventful history of Austria.

The place was first mentioned already in 1188 ( " Pehstal " - was collected location on the pitch ). At that time, the area around Poeggstall was transferred to the Benedictine Abbey Kremsmuenster. The aim was to build a branch monastery. Finally, it stayed with the construction of the church to St. Anne. In 1260 may have originated the first parts of the castle well, which was expanded in the course. Especially in the area of Poeggstall and the further north Ottenschlag the settlements consisted largely of hamlets and small villages streets. 1407 Poeggstall was raised to market. From 1899 to 1939 Poeggstall was the capital of the then political district Poeggstall (consisting of the judicial districts of Donau, Ottenschlag and Poeggstall ).
