Polski Fiat 125p

Model: 1980

The Polski Fiat 125p was a midsize car by the Polish producer FSO in Warsaw. As a licensed replica of the Fiat 125 it was sold under the brand Polski Fiat. After expiry of the license agreements the end of 1982 he was in 1983 under the brand name as FSO FSO FSO 125p or sold in 1300 or FSO 1500 ( depending on engine ).

History

Since the previously made Syrena and Warszawa vehicles technically outdated, it was decided at FSO again in cooperation with Fiat to occur, as has been before the war. Therefore, a license agreement was signed with Fiat on 22 December 1965.

The production of the 125p began in 1968 with the 1.3 -liter engine, which was followed by 1.5-liter engine in 1968, with one by amending the original Fiat design not only in details such as the headlamps. In addition, the model range was expanded significantly. Nevertheless, the production of the 125p was technically and financially a big challenge for FSO and the suppliers.

From 1978 onwards, was made parallel to the 125p of the FSO Polonez. This was based on the Fiat concept, but had a completely new body and was sold under its own brand FSO. In various model generations this was in production until 2001.

As a mid-sized car he competed with the upscale for socialist relations Soviet Ladas and Moskwitschs. In the GDR and other socialist countries could view the 125p as a status symbol. The problem of 125p, however, was that he needed a higher octane fuel, which was not available anywhere. Even with the quality of the car it was not the best: poor workmanship and a high susceptibility to rust made the Neukäufern already after 1-2 years of hard to create.

With the ever-increasing range of Lada / Shiguli end of the eighties the replenishment of 125p for the GDR ran dry completely. An estate version was also not offered in the GDR.

Technology
