Poltavka culture

The Poltavka culture (2700-2100 BC) is an archaeological culture of the early to middle Bronze Age in the region of the middle Volga in the north- west to the Volga bend near modern-day Don - Volga Canal in the south west with an eastern extension to the west of Orenburg.

As the Katakombengrab culture they followed the Yamnaya culture and became detached from the Sintashta culture. It also seems to be an early form of the Srubna culture. Next, there is evidence suggesting influences of the Maikop culture.

The only evidence by which the Poltavka culture can be distinguished from the Yamnaya culture, are changes in the ceramic and an increase in metal objects. Grave mound burials continue, but with less use of ocher.
