Põlva County

The circle Põlva (Estonian Põlva maakond or Põlvamaa ) is a county ( maakond ) in Estonia.

Geography

Põlvamaa located in the southeast of the country in a hilly moraine landscape and is dominated by agriculture. In the area of the circle, there are more than 130 lakes, of which the Meelva 78.7 hectares is the largest järv.

The circle Põlva bordered to the north Tartu County, on the west by Valga County and on the south by Võrumaa. In the east the course of the common border with Russia is debatable. Some villages like Lutepää and Saatse are only accessible by roads that lead through Russian territory.

Policy

The county government ( maakonnavalitsus ) is headed by a governor ( maavanem ), who is appointed by the Government of Estonia for five years.

Cities and Towns

The committee is composed of the city ( estn linn ) Põlva ( German: Pölwa ) and 13 rural communities ( vallad ) together.
