The Pompton River is a tributary of the Passaics, about 13 km long, in the north of the U.S. state of New Jersey.

It occurs south of the community Pompton Lakes by the junction of the Ramapos and Pequannocks. The Pompton flows in a southerly direction between Lincoln Park and Pequannock Township ( in the west) and Wayne (in the east ). It flows north of Fairfield in the Passaic. The catchment area includes the Ramapo Mountains on the New York-New Jersey border in the rural suburbs of New York City. By volume it is the main tributary of the Passaics. A portion is diverted to form the Wanaque reservoir.
