Pope Benedict IV

Benedict IV († August 903 in Rome) was Pope from 900 to 903 His name means the blessed one (in Latin ).

He stood on the 896 of the late Pope Formosus page and has been involved in combat Roman noble families. Like his predecessor John IX. he confirmed the legality of the pontificate of Formosus. Benedict IV was crowned in February 901 the king of the Lombards, Louis of Lower Burgundy, the Roman emperor, who, however, already 902 to his opponent Berengar I succumbed.

Benedict IV died in August 903, Rome.
