Potok, Ružomberok District

Potok (Hungarian Patak ) is a municipality in Okres Ružomberok within the Žilinský in the north of Slovakia with 108 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011).

Geography

The municipality is located in the western part of the basin Liptovská kotlina, a subunit of Podtatranská kotlina on the same stream. The center is located at an altitude of 554 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Ruzomberok.

History

The place was for the first time in 1273 in connection with the castle Liptau as Medecus, then 1286 mentioned in writing in the context of a land gift giving as Medekus POTOKA; the names relate well to many mineral springs in the area, but gradually came to the municipality of Bešeňová. In the 13th century resulted in a major trade route from Altsohl to Poland by Potok. The village belonged to the families of the gentry as Potocky and Kubinyi. 1828 were counted 12 houses and 92 inhabitants, who were employed in agriculture.

Until 1918, belonged to the lying in the county Liptau place the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Potok 112 inhabitants, including 109 Slovaks and two Ukrainians. A resident made ​​no indication. 57 inhabitants is known for the Evangelical Church AB, 40 inhabitants to the Roman Catholic Church and two residents of the Orthodox Church. 13 residents were non-denominational.
