Pottingeria

Pottingeria acuminata is the only species of the monotypic genus Pottingeria from the family of the spindle tree family ( Celastraceae ). The range of this species extends from Assam to the north-western Thailand.

Description

Pottingeria acuminata is an evergreen tree. Dried plant parts are light brown. The alternate and spirally arranged leaves have smooth leaf margins. The stipules are tiny.

The flowers are borne bündelig. The small flowers have radial symmetry a double perianth. The sepals and petals are free. There is only one stamen circle exists; the stamens are opposite the sepals, so it lacks the outer circle. It is a great discus available. Three carpels are fused into a superior ovaries. On a short pen is a three-lobed stigma; the stigma lobes are relatively long and straddling.

It is formed a capsule fruit.

System

The genus Pottingeria was founded in 1898 by David Prain in J. Asian. Soc. Bengal, Pt. 2, Nat. Hist. 67, p 291 first published. Pottingeria acuminata was temporarily treated as a separate family Pottingeriaceae, but also as part of the Grossulariaceae or Escalloniaceae. The APG III, it shall take on as part of the spindle tree family ( Celastraceae ).

The genus includes only one species, with two varieties:

  • Pottingeria acuminata Prain: Pottingeria acuminata var acuminata
