Pratapgarh (Hindi: प्रतापगढ़, Urdu: پرتاپ گڑھ, Pratapgarh [ prʌtɑ ː pɡʌɽ ʱ ]; earlier Partabgarh ) is a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located in the southeastern region of Awadh ( Oudh ) around 60 kilometers north of Allahabad and eight kilometers southwest of the district capital of Bela ( Bela Pratapgarh ). At the time of the 2001 census, Pratapgarh had 12,339 inhabitants. The city is eponymous for the district Pratapgarh.

Pratapgarh dates back to a fortress of the Rajput prince Pratap Singh founded in 1617. According to him, the city received its name ( garh means " fortress "). In the 18th century the fortress was contested as a local center of power, before they came under the rule of the Nawabs of Oudh in the 19th century. 1802 founded the British the nearby Bela as quarters for the auxiliary troops stationed in Oudh. After the Indian Rebellion of 1857 Oudh was annexed and incorporated into British India. After the annexation, the British established the district Pratapgarh, became its capital Bela.

The name Bela Pratapgarh and are sometimes interchanged, that's the name of the station in Bela Pratapgarh Junction.
