Prescott is a city and county seat in Nevada County of the U.S. state of Arkansas. In 2010 there were about 3300 people in the city.

Prescott is part of the socio-economic region Ark- La - Tex, which has arisen between the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

History

The city was founded in 1873 during the construction of the Cairo & Fulton Railroad and incorporated on October 6, 1874 in the County. Originally, the city of 48 blocks, both sides were of the railway line in each half. The streets were starting, built by the course of the route in a grid pattern along this.

The city grew quickly, as the railway reliable transport lokalert goods to larger markets ensured. Already in November 1873 opened the first post office, two years later, was founded with The Banner, the first local newspaper. Because of the increasing importance of the city in 1877 the county seat was moved here. In the late 1890s, Prescott had its own phone system and a water supply.

As in many other American cities, which were built on railway lines, the lumber industry had great influence on the development in Prescott. 1890 Ozan Tumber Company plantation was established, which quickly developed into a regional economic engine. Demography

The 2000 census showed a population of 3686, distributed to 1421 households and 912 families. The population density was about 218 inhabitants per square kilometer. 53.3 % of residents of Prescott were white, 44.5 % black, 1.8% Hispanic or Latino, 0.4% Indians and 0.1 % Asian. 1.2% were from a different ethnicity, 0.6 % had two or more ethnicities. The average age was 37 years, the per capita income was about 11,500 U.S. dollars, which almost a third of the population lived below the poverty line.

Traffic

To the east of the city is the Kizer Field, a small regional airport. In addition, the Missouri Pacific Railroad runs through the town.

Two kilometers west of the city extends Interstate 30, U.S. Highway 67 also runs parallel to the railway line through the town. The town center has a crossing, at the U.S. Highway 371, the Arkansas Highway 19, the Arkansas Highway 24 and Arkansas Highway 332 is hit.
