The pumped storage power plant " Domenico Cimarosa ", also known as pumped storage power plant Presenzano, is a pump storage power plant in the Italian community Presenzano in the province of Caserta in the Campania region, on the river Volturno. The power plant of Enel was named after the Italian composer Domenico Cimarosa ( 1749-1801 ).

The four reversible pump turbines of the power plant have in turbine mode a capacity of 1000 MW in pump operation and a power output of 1029 MW. The upper reservoir ( bacino di cesima ) and the lower basin ( bacino di Presenzano ) have a volume of about 6 million cubic meters each. The nominal water level of the upper reservoir is 643 m slm, that of the lower reservoir at 156.05 m slm. The lower basin has an area of 750,000 m² it and a depth of up to 23 m. Between the upper and lower basin a total drop of 495.5 m, the water flows between these two basins initially through a 2.3 km long headrace tunnel and then over an inclined penstock with a flow rate of 250.56 m³ / s Near the transition of pressure tunnels for pressure piping is a moated castle. To compensate Wasserverlusste through leaks and evaporation, the power plant is additionally fed waters of the Rio S. Bartolomeo, a tributary of the Volturno.

The construction began in 1979, commissioning was 1991. Pumped storage power plant cost a trillion lire, equivalent to about half a billion euros.
