Prince Tomohito of Mikasa

Prince Tomohito of Mikasa (Japanese寛 仁 亲王, Tomohito - shinnō; born January 5, 1946 in Hayama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, † June 6, 2012 in Tokyo, Japan) was a cousin of Emperor Akihito a member of the Japanese imperial family. He was the crown prince of the house of Mikasa no miya. His official title was His Imperial Highness. In the vernacular, he was also known as " Hige no Denka " ( German: " His Highness with the beard ").

Family

Prince Tomohito was the eldest son of Prince and Princess Mikasa Mikasa to the world. He became engaged on 21 May 1980 and married Aso Nobuko on 7 November 1980. His wife received the title Princess Tomohito of Mikasa awarded by Tennō. The brother of his wife, the former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso.

The couple has two daughters:

  • Princess Akiko of Mikasa (born 20 December 1981)
  • Yōko Princess Mikasa, (born 25 October 1983)

Life

Prince Tomohito studied political science at the Faculty of Law, Gakushuin University. He graduated in 1968 from the owner. From 1968 to 1970 he studied at Magdalen College, Oxford University in England.

From 1970 to 1972 he was a member of the Organising Committee for the Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo in 1972. Prince Tomohito was after he himself was diagnosed with cancer in 2003, president and honorary president of many organizations in the area of cancer research as well as various sports organizations. He was often as a representative of the Japanese imperial family to travel abroad, where he used particularly in the field of public health and welfare.

He was since 1983 an honorary member of the Catholic Student Association AV Edo - Tokyo Rhenaniastraße, the CV a friendly connection.

Since 1991, Prince Tomohito had undergone numerous operations for cancer. Finally, the consequences of the disease, he died on 6 June, 2012.

Miscellaneous

In November 2005 it was reported by Tomohito that he was of opinion, Crown Prince Naruhito, who has a daughter, but no sons should, take a concubine, to obtain an heir to the throne, as it is common in the Japanese Empire for centuries.
