Princess Clotilde of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha

Marie Adelheid Amalie Clotilde of Saxe- Coburg and Gotha ( born July 8, 1846 in Neuilly -sur -Seine, France, † June 3, 1927 in Alcsút, Hungary) was a Princess of Saxe -Coburg and Gotha from the Catholic side line Koháry and was the marriage of Archduchess of Austria.

Life

Clotilde was the eldest daughter of Prince August of Saxe- Coburg and Gotha (1818-1881) and his wife Clementine d' Orléans (1817-1907), daughter of the French king Louis Philippe. Her youngest brother Ferdinand in 1887 King of Bulgaria.

She married on 12 May 1864 in Coburg Archduke Joseph Karl Ludwig of Austria ( 1833-1905 ), son of Archduke Joseph Anton of Austria, Palatine of Hungary and Duchess Maria Dorothea of Württemberg. The princess had with her family in Konstanz receive advertising during a trip, where also her future husband was staying with his brother Stefan. The marriage was by inclination and was considered lucky.

Clotilde was awarded the Star Cross Order. She died at Castle Alcsút and was buried with her husband and their children in the crypt of the royal palace in Buda. The tombs were looted in the 1970s and heavily damaged. In the 1980s, they were restored.
