Princess Henriette of Nassau-Weilburg

Henriette Princess of Nassau- Weilburg ( born April 22, 1780 in Kirchheim- Bolanden; † January 2, 1857 in Schloss Kirchheim unter Teck ) was a German nobleman from the House of Nassau. She was the wife of Duke Ludwig of Württemberg.

Life

Princess Henriette was the youngest daughter of Prince Karl Christian of Nassau- Weilburg and Karolina Wilhelmina of Orange- Nassau, Princess of Orange. About her mother Henriette was related to the Guelph house and a great-granddaughter of King George II of Great Britain.

After they had earlier lost both parents, she grew up under the care of her eldest brother Friedrich Wilhelm. Henriette married on 28 January 1797 in the Hermitage Museum in Bayreuth Duke Ludwig of Württemberg, son of Duke Friedrich II Eugen of Württemberg and Princess Friederike Dorothea of Brandenburg- Schwedt Sophia. The marriage was by some accounts as harmonious.

Her husband was at first an officer in the Prussian service, and from 1800 a general in the Russian service. His career brought with it changing whereabouts; Henriette constantly accompanied her husband. Accordingly, Henriette brought her five children to five different places to the world.

After restless years in which Duke Ludwig is indebted very high, determined his brother, King Frederick I of Württemberg, 1811 Kirchheim Castle as a permanent place of residence of the family. After the death of her husband developed Duchess Henriette a strong social commitment, which dominates the town of Kirchheim today. Albert Knapp, a committed advocate of Pietism, for several years in Kirchheim unter Teck worked as a preacher at their request.

Many social institutions, such as a kindergarten (1838 ), the hospital (1840 ) or the volunteer fire department, go back on their own initiative. On the occasion of its 150th anniversary of the death of the city honored her in 2007 with an exhibition.

Henriette was awarded the Grand Cross of the Russian Order of St. Catherine's.
