Margravine Friederike of Brandenburg-Schwedt

Friederike Dorothea of Brandenburg- Schwedt Sophia ( born December 18, 1736, in Schwedt, † March 9, 1798 in Stuttgart) was a Princess of Brandenburg- Schwedt and by marriage Duchess of Württemberg.

Life

Friederike Dorothea Sophie was a daughter of Margrave Frederick William of Brandenburg- Schwedt (1700-1771) from his marriage to Sophie Dorothea Marie of Prussia (1719-1765), sister of Frederick the Great.

They married on November 29, 1753 Duke Friedrich Eugen of Württemberg ( 1732-1797 ). The couple first lived in Treptow an der Rega, where Friederike and her husband created a culturally significant residence.

From 1769 the family lived in the left-bank Mömpelgard. Friederike has been described as witty and warm; while they belonged to the Reformed faith, her husband was Catholic and the children were brought up in the Lutheran faith. This condition had asked Frederick II of Prussia itself and it had been established in the marriage contract dated 3 September 1753. Therefore also Protestant estates granted an annual sum of 25,000 florins to parenting.
