Frederick William, Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt

Frederick William of Brandenburg- Schwedt ( born December 17, 1700 in the Schloss Oranienbaum near Dessau, † March 4, 1771 in Wildenbruchstrasse Castle ) was Margrave of Brandenburg- Schwedt from the House of Hohenzollern.

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm was a son of the Margrave Philipp Wilhelm von Brandenburg- Schwedt (1669-1711) from his marriage to Johanna Charlotte (1682-1750), daughter of Prince Johann Georg II of Anhalt- Dessau.

Already in 1711 he received a separate regiment, which was now called the regiment " Brandenburg Schwedt on horseback ." But he should never stand in the field. For his Grand Tour in 1715, he traveled to Geneva in 1716 and to Italy. He came in 1719 to Prussia, where he received from the king of the Order of the Black Eagle. On June 15, 1723 he became the Prussian Major-General. He was elected to his time in the Duke of Courland, but what could not be enforced. On July 10, 1737, he was appointed lieutenant general.

He was also called " the great Margrave ," because he felt like every time to strike and this also drove with all his subjects. Because of his passion for hunting appointed him Emperor Charles VI. Erzjägermeister to the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation.

For the improvement and beautification of his little country of Margrave did very much. In Schwedt he had the castle beautify through conversions, improved the castle garden and extended the castle freedom that he has still images from classical antiquity - apparently a result of his trip to Italy - did adorn. At his court was in the 1730s who later became general of cavalry of Frederick the Great, Friedrich Wilhelm von Seydlitz, as Page and has had a lasting influence, not only positively by dealing with the Marquis in his living.

On March 4, 1771 Frederick William died in wild- breaking, at a heavy cold which he had contracted while fishing. He was in the former French Church, now Berlischky pavilion, who had dedicated his brother and successor, Margrave Friedrich Heinrich as a family burial ground, buried. Beside him was his wife, the Countess Sophie, the sister of Frederick the Great, was buried.
