Irene of Greece ( born May 11, 1942 in Cape Town ) is a former Princess of Greece.
She was born as the third and youngest child of King Paul I of Greece (1901-1964) and his wife Friederike of Hanover (1917-1981), the only daughter of Duke Ernst August of Brunswick- Lüneburg (1887-1953) and his wife Viktoria Luise of Prussia ( 1892-1980 ).
She was a student of concert pianist Gina Bachauer and for a while even working as a concert pianist.
Irene remained unmarried after her brother was deposed from the throne, and spent with the mother for several years in India. Since the death of Queen Friederike 1981 Princess Irene lives in Madrid at the Zarzuela Palace with her sister, Queen Sophia of Spain. Her niece Infanta Christina has her born in 2005, daughter named after Irene.
