Prometheus Award
The Prometheus Award is a literary award, to be awarded the libertarian works in the field of science fiction.
History
The Prometheus Award was established in 1979 by L. Neil Smith. The first winner was F. Paul Wilson with his novel Wheels Within Wheels. The prize has been awarded a gold medal, which had a value of around $ 2,500. Because of the high costs and the lack of financial and organizational backbone of the event after the first time for two years was put on hold.
In 1982, the Libertarian Futurist Society was founded, the Prometheus Award revived. In addition to a category for the best novel a year later a Hall of Fame founded to honor classic libertarian works.
In both categories will be awarded as a prize, a gold medal, one side of which is to represent the free trade and the other side of the free spirit. The medal for the best novel originally weighed a half, since 2001, a whole ounce. The medal for the Hall of Fame weighs eighth ounce.
