Prosper Louis, 7th Duke of Arenberg

Prosper Louis of Arenberg ( born April 28, 1785 Enghien, † February 27, 1861 in Brussels), Duke of Arenberg, Aarschot ( Aerschot ) and Meppen, Prince of Recklinghausen, Count of the Mark, etc. was ruler of the Holy Roman Reich, owner of the Grand Cross of the Belgian Order of Leopold, the Dutch lion north, the Prussian Black Eagle, of the Bavarian Order of St. Hubertus and St. Michael the Order, Officer of the French Legion of Honour, and Colonel of a French cavalry regiment.

Life

After his father Ludwig Engelbert had passed Arenberg (1750-1820) him in September 1803, the government of the duchy of Arenberg - Meppen, he was 7th Duke of Arenberg. In 1815 he lost by a treaty between the Kingdom of Hanover and Prussia on May 29, the area Meppen at Hanover and Recklinghausen and Dülmen to Prussia, but Prosper Louis was able master of his possessions. As such, he was a member of the first chamber of the noble court of the Kingdom of Hanover in 1854 and received a hereditary seat in the Prussian House.

In 1831 he was a candidate of the Vatican for election as King of the Belgians. The Duke of Arenberg also gained great contributions to the completion of Cologne Cathedral.
