Prunus ilicifolia ( Holly in English - Leafed Cherry, indicating as well as the specific epithet to the holly -like leaves, and Evergreen cherry or Islay ) is a species of the genus Prunus in the rose family ( Rosaceae ).

Features

Prunus ilicifolia is an evergreen shrub that reaches the plant height 1-8 meters. On good sites, a tree-like stature similar amount can occur. It is usually formed into a dense crown. The bark is gray to reddish- brown. The change-constant leaves are dark green with a glossy top and a matte base. They are 2-5 inches long, hard, thick, undivided and have a number of well-trained spines on its edge on.

The hermaphrodite flowers are small, inconspicuous and white and sit in dense, cylindrical inflorescences.

The stone fruit is a small, reddish or purple, rarely yellow and cherry- shaped.

Dissemination

The natural range of Prunus ilicifolia comprises the territories of California and Baja California with a Mediterranean climate. The species is found in Busch Companies moderately humid locations in coastal vegetation, hills and chaparral. The type subspecies comes here before along the coasts of Napa County to Baja California, while Prunus ilicifolia subsp. lyonii is found in the Channel Islands and in Lower California home. This type is also grown in Hawaii.
