Geographical Location

The city is located just a few kilometers southwest of the Polish capital Warsaw.

History

The first mention of the settlement Pruszków dates from 1456, when Świętosław from the family of Pierzchałów received the place from Masowschen Duke Janusz I.. However, the oldest part of the present town is the district Żbików. In Żbików there was already a 1236 Catholic Parish of the Diocese of Poznan.

1795 during the Third Partition of Poland was Pruszków part of Prussia. In 1807 it became part of the newly created Grand Duchy of Warsaw and in 1815 part of Congress Poland. 1845, the city is connected to the rail network and thus has a connection to Warsaw and Vienna. This meant an economic boom for the city. Especially the heavy industry became an important growth factor.

On November 9, 1916, the site then became a town and Żbików the city was incorporated. After the First World War the city became part of Poland. With the outbreak of World War II it was occupied by the Wehrmacht and a ghetto it was built. While the Warsaw Uprising in August 1944, the city was the transit camp 121 refugees from Warsaw recorded. August 6, 1944 to November 10, 1944 here were 650,000 people, including 550,000 held from Warsaw. Many of them were deported to concentration camps. On 17 January 1945 the occupation ended by the Third Reich.

From 1975 to 1998, the village belonged to the Province of Warsaw.

Since summer 2009, the electric car is produced in Sam Pruszków.
