Purgerot

Purgerot is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Purgerot situated at an altitude of 255 m above sea level, 8 km north- west of Port- sur -Saône and about 18 km northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in an open basin to the east of the Ruisseau du Pont des Creux, west of Saônetals, at the edge of the heights of the Bois de Chargey.

The area of ​​14.11 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the upper Saônetals. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of the Ruisseau du Pont des Creux, which is on average 240 m. The basin has a width of one kilometer and a length of two kilometers and is drained by the river east to the Saône. To the east, the municipality area extends into the broad Alluvialniederung the Saône ( to an average of 215 m located ). Agricultural land use predominates here.

On three sides of the valley of Purgerot foothills of the plateau is surrounded by Combeaufontaine. In the north, the wooded edge of the Grand Lien is (327 m), in the south the crest of the Bois de Chargey, on the 363 meters, the highest elevation of Purgerot is achieved. To the west and southwest of the municipality of soil ranges on the wooded plateau of the Grand Bois (325 m ) and up into the headwaters of the Ruisseau de l' Etang in Arbecey. Exist in geological- tectonic respect the heights of a tough layer of chalk of the middle Jurassic period, while the eastern and northern part of the municipality emerges an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments of the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

To Purgerot the settlement Port d' Atelier heard (220 m) on the west bank of the Saône. Neighboring communities of Purgerot are Aboncourt - Gesincourt, Fouchécourt and Baulay in the north, and Faverney Conflandey in the east, Chargey -lès- Port in the south and Arbecey in the West.

History

Remains from the Gallo- Roman period indicate a very early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages Purgerot belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Through a donation reached the village in 1204 into the possession of the monastery Cherlieu. The Chapel of Saint -Jean -de- Réomé is mentioned since 1232. She went in 1697 in the possession of the monastery Morey over. Already in 1196 the settlement Port d'Atelier is called by the Saône as a hub for timber for the first time. Together with the Franche -Comté Purgerot came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In 1972, merged with the neighboring community Purgerot Arbecey to double municipality Purgerot - Arbecey. Only five years later, both communities were given back their independence in 1977. Today Purgerot is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes de la Saône Jolie.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Martin is a mixture of different styles. The oldest part is the Romanesque bell tower, chancel and side chapels in the flamboyant Gothic style from the 15th century, while the ship was rebuilt in the 17th century and remodeled in the 19th century. In-room amenities include a richly sculpted wooden altar (17th century), paintings and statues from the 17th century. The covered Lavoir, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle, was built in 1847. From a former seat of power only a few remains are visible. In Port d' Atelier is a 1931 restored chapel that houses a statue of the Madonna from the 16th century.

Population

With 367 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Purgerot one of the smaller towns in the Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century, the population decreased continuously (1881 were still 709 persons counted ).

Economy and infrastructure

Purgerot was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes near a secondary road that leads from Port-sur- Saône to Jussey. Further road links exist with Combeaufontaine and Faverney.
