The Red Dock - Clearwing ( Pyropteron chrysidiformis ), sometimes referred to as Ampfersandrasen - Clearwing or gold wasp clearwings and also under the name Pyropteron known chrysidiforme, is a butterfly of the family of Clearwing ( Sesiidae ). Features

Butterfly

The moths reach a wingspan of 17-23 millimeters. Their forewings are bright red, red-orange or red-brown dusted and have only very small transparent window. The leading edge and the narrow Saumbinde are black brown, the strongly rounded apex. In the middle of an elongated black Diskalfleck can be seen, which extends up to the front edge. The hind wings are transparent and show a narrow dark Saumbinde and a small black brown Diskalfleck. The fringes are brightened with all pairs of wings. Similar Species

The vermilion - dock Clearwing ( Pyropteron minianiformis ) is more delicate in overall appearance and has more pointed forewings.

Geographical distribution and occurrence

The Red Dock - clearwings is distributed locally in Central and Southern Europe. Main habitat of the species are green valleys, forest clearings, heaths, sandy slopes and ruderal areas.

Way of life

The diurnal moths fly in June and July, at higher altitudes until August. You like to visit the flowers of different plants, these include: thistles ( Cirsium ), rock cloves ( Petrorhagia ), fine beam ( Erigeron annuus ) and clover (Trifolium ).
