Qarghayi District

The district Quarghaee (also Qarghayi Qarghaee or written ) in Laghman has 60 villages. It is the largest district in Laghman province and is 30 kilometers from the provincial capital Mihtarlam away. It borders the district Mihtarlam in the north, the district Alingar in the northeast, the province of Nangarhar in the south and the province of Kabul to the west. The population is 94,600 people (as of 2009), which will mostly Pashtuns, Tajiks and Pashaien. Some time there was a tense situation between the Pashaien and the Pashtuns and Tajiks. The district center is the village of Lal Khanabad, which is located between the Kabul River and tributary Alingar.

Agriculture is the main source of income of the district, as a large part of the arable land was not affected by a drought. The health system is in a better condition than in the other districts. Many houses were destroyed during the war in Afghanistan.
