Qatar National Library

The Qatar National Library (Arabic مكتبة قطر الوطنية ) originally consisted mainly of a collection of English books and was located in an old building in Ras Abu Aboud Street in the capital of Qatar, Doha.

New National Library

2003 a new building was designed by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, whose completion was scheduled for 2006. With a height of 117 meters, the library would become one of the highest in the world. Isozaki's design was not realized.

Regardless of the old plans of the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas was commissioned to build a central library for the Qatar Foundation, the "Qatar Foundation Central Library" ( QFCL ). 2012, the project has been renamed to "Qatar National Library." The Koolhaas building is scheduled to open in 2014. Headquarters of the new library is the Education City, a built according to plans by Isozaki new neighborhood on the outskirts of Doha.

As director ( " Project Director " ) of the new National Library of Qatar Claudia Lux was recovered, the former director of the Central and Regional Library Berlin ( ZLB ).
